A Visit to Austin

BBQ at the Salt Lick

Debbie and I just got back from a wonderful weekend visiting Nicki in Austin, TX. We did our best to eat every style of BBQ available. We are still very, very stuffed from eating so much wonderful BBQ.

First off, we had some breakfast tacos. Yum! That was followed by a nice tour around campus, and a visit to the LBJ museum, where Nicki has her classes. Then we picked up a cooler and some beer and headed out to the Salt Lick BBQ joint just outside of Austin. Just writing that makes me start to salivate, so delicious. After gorging on meat, meat, and more meat (with a side of coleslaw), we checked out some of Austin's famed night life. We washed down all that food with way too many beers, we must have gotten side tracked with all the fantastic people watching.

On Sunday, well, it was more food food food. We had an amazing brunch, followed by some time hanging out by the "lake" (really a wider part of the Colorado River, which flows through Austin - no, not THAT Colorado River, another one that is named the same). We ended up the day at Lamberts, another famed BBQ joint. This time, we gorged on meat while listening to a really good Jazz trio and drinking wine.

We left on Monday morning. The airport was a mess, and we spent an hour on the tarmac waiting to take off - typical. Now, we are dieting and eating vegetables. What a great weekend for a carnivore!
