Our Summer Sabbatical

For those who haven't heard, Debbie and I are taking some time off to do some travelling. I know, shocker. We end up going overseas every year. But this time, we're taking six weeks off to do some serious exploring.
Where are we going you ask. Well, let me outline our next adventure.
On May 22nd, which happens to be our one year anniversary, we take a flight to Istanbul. We land in Istanbul on the 23rd, and spend the next four nights exploring the sites of Istanbul (not Constantinople). We'll be in Istanbul from May 23rd through 27th, staying at the Hotel Alaturka.
Adding to the fun, we have some friends joining us in Turkey. Kamael and Shannon, who trekked with us in Nepal, and Kerry meet up with us in Istanbul and spend the next week or so exploring Turkey with us.
From Istanbul, we fly to Kayseri and make our way to Goreme, in the heart of Cappadocia. We'll be staying at the Sultan Cave Suites (pictured above) for the next three nights (from May 27th through May 30th). We'll explore the fascinating chimney rock formations and underground cities that make up one of the most historic places in the world.
From Cappadocia, we make our way to the Turkish coast. We have not decided on our itinerary for this part of our trip yet. We're thinking we'll rent a van and explore the small towns that line the coast. We've got five nights to spend before making our way to Rhodes (May 30th through June 4th). I'll post more when we've made up our mind :) - at this point in time, Debbie and I are on our own.

On June 4th, we plan on spending the night in Marmaris, so we can get to Rhodes. We are going to spend June 5th on Rhodes (an Greek island off the coast of Turkey). On June 6th, we take a ferry to Santorini, and spend the next four nights at the Hotel Afroessa (from June 6th through June 10th). On June 10th, we take a ferry to Mykonos, and spend the next four nights at the Tharraoe of Mykonos hotel (from June 10th through June 14th). On the 14th, we take a ferry to Athens. We're only going to spend two nights in Athens (June 14th and 15th, at the Central Athens Hotel), which ought to be enough time to check out the historic ruins.
From Athens, we catch a flight to Zagreb, Croatia (via Budapest). We spend one night in Zagreb (June 16th, at the Arcotel Allegra hotel). We rent a car in Zagreb, and on June 17th, drive down to the Plitvice Lakes National Park. We spend two nights at the Hotel Jezero (June 17th and 18th) exploring the trails and lakes of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. We then drive down to the coast to the town of Split, the largest coastal down in Croatia. We spend two nights at Split, at the Hotel Kastel (June 19th and 20th). One the 21st, we take a ferry to the island of Hvar, and spend the next three days exploring the island (June 21st, 22nd, and 23rd - staying at the Hvar-Rosso apartments). Then, off to Dubrovnik for three nights (June 24th - 27th, at the Hilton Imperial).
We wind down our trip in the UK visiting friends and my brother (direct flight from Dubrovnik to London with EasyJet, cheapest flight of the whole trip).
Quite an adventure! We are extremely excited, and cannot wait to get travellin!
